Head of Estates

Cheshire East Council
Salary £73,906 to £85,883
Hackney

Cheshire East is a big borough with huge potential.  Home to 400,000 people and close to Greater Manchester and Merseyside, it is a place with fantastic assets, great places to live, good connectivity and serious economic clout.  With a new Chief Executive, Leader and Deputy Leader appointed in 2024, the council is embarking on a major reset to ensure our financial sustainability and protect essential services – creating a council that is fit for the future and that can continue to deliver our ambitions for the borough.

A key part of our transformation will be the effective use of our asset base and we are currently seeking a new Head of Estates to lead this key service area.  As you would expect for a large authority with a mixture of rural areas, towns and villages, we own a varied array of buildings as well as land – but we need to ensure they are used effectively and efficiently and that they support economic growth.  We are therefore refreshing our asset strategies and our asset management plan to support our transformation, optimising the operational estate and promoting the disposal of land and property.

THE ROLE

The role also covers facilities management and will manage a team of dedicated staff delivering an improved environment in our operational buildings, and we therefore seek candidates who can develop our corporate landlord model, work effectively with partners, refresh our asset management plan and deliver tangible benefits to communities and the economy. Candidates can come from any property-related sector but we ideally want to attract people with a strong professional and technical understanding of asset management (including a suitable professional qualification such as RICS). In addition, you will have the determination and skills to achieve excellent outcomes as well as the desire to play a major role in Cheshire East’s overall transformation.
