Hackney

Chatham House has been a source of independent analysis, trusted dialogue and influential ideas for more than one hundred years. In the immediate aftermath of the First World War, our founders pioneered the concept of an organisation dedicated to the study of international affairs with the aim of preventing or resolving global problems.. Their vision altered the course of international politics and helped create the international consensus that followed the two world wars. Our history is one of building understanding between nations and driving world-changing policies. We continue to set a high bar to champion solutions. Now in 2024, as before, we are an independent policy institute and a trusted forum for debate and dialogue. Chatham House helps people, societies and governments to understand and adapt to change. In the last century, we have provided thought leadership on the issues that defined the 20th century. We helped craft the multilateral institutions and mechanisms of global financial stability after the Second World War. We gave African independence leaders a platform throughout decolonization. We were key to Anglo-Soviet diplomacy initiatives. Our research influenced China to establish low-carbon economic zones. The world-famous Chatham House Rule has helped foster open dialogue and idea-sharing.
