We are Alzheimer’s Society. We’re a vital source of support and a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s Society is here for everyone affected by dementia. By 2025, 1 million people will be living with the condition in the UK, and many millions more carers, partners, families and friends are affected. Lack of treatments and postcode lottery for care means that people with dementia and their families aren’t getting the support they need, when they need it. We will not rest until people with dementia and their carers live more fulfilled and less fearful lives, free from stigma and inequality. Our supporters ensure that people living with dementia today have the support they deserve, that their rights are protected and enhanced by campaigning, and that they can look to a brighter future thanks to investment in research. We are proud of how quickly and decisively we have been able to respond to the challenges of the last few years: transforming our services to virtual models; finding new ways of working; making tough decisions and making the most of the government’s financial support; and delivering outstanding fundraising – despite the significant challenges – as well campaigning for change that has resulted in new commitments from the UK Government on social care and continued our investment in ground breaking research.

The Role

The Board of Trustees is Alzheimer’s Society’s most senior governance group, providing support, strategic direction and constructive challenge to the Executive Team. The Chair will lead and inspire the Board to deliver the Society’s strategic ambitions successfully; to make a significant difference to the lives of people affected by dementia. The Chair will seize the opportunity to increase the profile of dementia and raise awareness of the huge and growing impact on carers, the government and society as a whole.

We are at an exciting point in the charity’s history where there are significant strategic opportunities to ensure a real difference is made for people living with dementia – you will bring experience to lead the charity to fulfil this potential.

We are committed to widening diversity at Alzheimer’s Society. We want our employees, volunteers and Trustees to represent the diversity of the communities of which we are a part and to reflect the diverse needs of all those living with dementia. We particularly welcome applications to help us achieve this aim.
