Executive Director of Adult Social Care and Health

Birmingham City Council
Salary from £174,250 to £226,662
Hackney

We are a city facing unprecedented financial challenges. But we are buoyed by the determination and resilience of our communities, elected members, workforce, and commissioners to overcome them. The hurdles ahead of us and the sheer scale of the challenge is not to be underestimated but our residents deserve the very best services that local government can offer.

THE ROLE

Our transformation journey has started with the appointment of a nationally regarded chief executive.  The next building block is the assembly of a truly outstanding team of executive directors united in their desire to restore impeccable standards of governance,  financial management, and public service.  Our determination to recreate a council that empowers the city to thrive will underpin all that we do and we will prove that local government can rise to the challenge in exceptional circumstances.

The recruitment of an Executive Director for Adult Social Care and Health will be central to the city’s improvement journey, given the sheer size and scale of the directorate and the budgets it manages. The good news is that adult social care and health services are performing well. Our recent CQC pilot inspection was positive, citing that staff leaders and partners were all passionate about supporting the people of Birmingham to achieve better health outcomes and had created a culture of accountability, with a focus on improved outcomes.

However, there is much more to do, and as our new ED you will need to work closely with our health partners to deliver better integration, as well as develop a culture of innovation and transformation across all services areas. Underlying your approach will be a clear focus on our mission to support our most vulnerable residents and improve the health outcomes of everyone in the city.
