Our vision is of a society where people dealing with complex social issues such as homelessness, trafficking and modern slavery and domestic abuse get the support to rebuild their lives. That is why we partner with small and local charities helping people overcome complex social issues. For more than 35 years we have been standing side by side with small but vital charities; to provide the right kinds of funding and support, in the right ways, and seeking to influence others to meet the needs of small charities, the communities they are rooted in and the people they serve. We are an independent charitable trust funded by the profits of Lloyds Banking Group and are proud of our relationship with them. They have backed us in good times and bad, value our expertise and give us the freedom to direct our work and resources in the way that best serves people, charities and communities. But while we are one of the largest and most established corporate foundations in the UK, key to our impact is our people. We work in partnership with the charities we support, we listen, understand and respond to charities needs through funding, development support and influencing policy and practice. The importance of that flows through our staff team and Board of Trustees.

The Role

We are looking for at least one new Trustee to contribute to the implementation of our new Strategy, support good governance and help us shape the Foundation’s future. Our Trustees are creative and independent thinkers who work collaboratively to ensure we consider issues from the broadest range of perspectives. You will enjoy working with colleagues from different backgrounds to address common causes. You will bring valuable insights and lived experiences to discussion, ensuring we stay connected and that the voices of those we want to reach are included in decision-making. 

You will care deeply about issues of disadvantage in England and Wales and see what is possible through effective local organisations and empowered communities. Independence of thought, personal influence and emotional intelligence matter more for these appointments than professional accomplishments alone. We are committed to actively threading Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) through all aspects of who we are, how we work and what we do and say. An understanding and commitment to EDI, to elevating grassroots and unheard voices, to communities of identity and geography that have too often been marginalised, is important for these appointments.
