Interim Head of Communications

Starfish Search is supporting a local authority in the North of England to appoint an Interim Head of Communications to lead the council’s communications and engagement function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the council’s communications, media relations, digital content and stakeholder engagement functions
- Provide strategic communications advice and support to senior leaders, elected members and key stakeholders
- Oversee reputation management, crisis communications and media handling
- Develop and deliver communications strategies that support organisational priorities and transformation programmes
- Lead internal communications activity to drive engagement and organisational change
- Manage communications budgets, external suppliers and agency relationships
- Lead and develop the Communications team
About you:
- Significant senior communications experience, ideally within local government or the wider public sector
- Strong background in media relations, stakeholder engagement and reputation management
- Experience advising senior leaders and elected members on complex and sensitive issues
- Proven track record of leading communications through organisational change and transformation
- Excellent leadership, influencing and relationship management skills
