We are working with The Royal College of Pathologists, the professional membership organisation dedicated to advancing the science and practice of pathology, supporting around 11,500 members across the UK and overseas who hold registered medical or scientific qualifications. The College is progressing its three-year strategy and annual plan, embedding a newly established member engagement function, and continuing to strengthen training, professional standards and development across the profession it represents.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an Interim Director of Professionalism to provide strategic leadership, governance and oversight across the College’s Professionalism directorate for a 12-month period, covering a maternity leave. As a core member of the Senior Management Team, you will lead a broad, multidisciplinary function spanning Clinical Effectiveness, Continuing Professional Development, External Quality Assessment, Member Engagement, Professional Standards, Revalidation and Workforce, bringing coherence and continuity across these interconnected work streams for the benefit of pathologists and the patients and public they serve.

This is a 12-month interim appointment, providing strategic direction and continuity across the Professionalism function as the College embeds its standards and quality agenda. You will bring a strong track record of senior leadership within a professional body, charity, medical education or healthcare environment, sound judgement in navigating complex and sensitive issues, experience of managing budgets, staff and multiple concurrent projects, and the credibility and diplomacy to step into a senior role quickly and build effective relationships with trustees, members, clinical directors and external stakeholders.
