Interim Assistant Director of Environment

Starfish Search is supporting a London Borough to appoint an Interim Assistant Director of Environment to provide strategic leadership across a broad portfolio of frontline services, ensuring high-quality service delivery and supporting the council’s environmental ambitions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of high-quality frontline services, driving continuous improvement and performance
- Work closely with the Director, elected members and key stakeholders to deliver council priorities
- Oversee service planning, performance management and budget responsibility across the portfolio
- Lead and support senior managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture
- Ensure effective partnership working with external organisations and community stakeholders
About You:
- Significant senior leadership experience within environment services in local government
- Strong understanding of one or more areas including waste, street cleansing, parks, highways, leisure or regulatory services
- Proven ability to lead large, complex frontline service portfolios
- Experience working effectively with elected members and senior stakeholders
- A collaborative and visible leader with excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
