Head of Capital Projects and Housing Delivery

Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
Central London
circa £90,000
Hackney

In Kensington and Chelsea, we have an ambitious Council Plan which sets out our priorities for the next four years. It is directly shaped by the Council’s biggest ever ‘conversation’ with residents and puts community involvement at its heart. Following the Grenfell enquiry, Kensington and Chelsea understands the opportunity, as well as the necessity, for positive innovation and change. To help us deliver our Council plan and commitments we want to make it easy for people to get involved and improve how we listen and involve local people in our work. We want to ensure Kensington and Chelsea emerges stronger and better from its current challenges and the delivery of capital projects such as our new homes or works to schools is an important part of this.

The Role

We are now seeking a Head of Capital Projects and Housing Delivery to lead a range of high-profile capital programmes, many of which are focused on new housing. Working closely with the Director of Social Investment and Property, and leading a team of project managers, you will be key to the successful delivery of these capital projects. From feasibility and land assembly, through legal and contractual negotiations, to successful handover, you will drive every aspect, offering both strategic direction and team motivation. You will also be the public face of these programmes, engaging closely with both residents and key stakeholders. By drawing together the talents, insights and expertise of many people, you will help to shape the future landscape of Kensington and Chelsea.

Holding a professional qualification such as RICS or CIOB, you will bring significant senior-level expertise in new housing and capital programme delivery, including experience of overseeing contracts and procurement. This is likely to be in a local authority or housing association context, as you will need to be ready to navigate our specific financial, legal and organisational challenges. A willingness to engage fully with local communities as well as contractors, council Members and other local government representatives is vital. You will therefore have the skills to negotiate, communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people, along with genuine drive and motivation.
