Director of Education

Slough Borough Council
up to £119,000 (including pending pay award)
Hackney

Slough Borough Council is never far from the headlines at the moment - the challenges are well documented, but there’s been much less coverage of Slough’s recovery and improvement journey. There is a new corporate plan in place outlining Slough’s commitment to residents, including a determination to close the healthy life expectancy gap and improve the life chances of the borough’s children and young people. There is also a new top team in place – all focussed on turning the council around. Slough has already made some great progress but there are still mountains to climb. That is why the council is looking for an extraordinary group of senior leaders to join them for what will undoubtedly be the biggest and also the most rewarding challenge of their careers.

THE ROLE

The Director of Education will have responsibility for 150 staff and £56.2m budget, and work closely with the Executive Director of Children’s Services, the Children’s Services Leadership team, and elected members, providing professional advice on the delivery and improvement of the Council’s education services. The new Director will drive efforts to raise attainment, address educational inequalities, and ensure all children in Slough have the best start in life, the opportunity to achieve their full potential and are supported along their journey to becoming independent and successful adults.

This is a crucial post, and will need someone with the energy, enthusiasm and determination to work collaboratively with colleagues, members and partners and make a real difference to the outcomes for our children and young people.
