Executive Director of Housing and Sustainable Development

London Borough of Merton
Circa £155,000
Hackney

The London Borough of Merton is looking for an exceptional leader to help shape the future of Merton, and to develop and deliver a strategy that will put Merton on the map.

The Council has some of the boldest transformation plans in London including for Morden and Wimbledon town centres. It is a borough going places, driven by an ambitious leadership team armed with a brand-new blueprint to build a better Merton for all.

The Borough is served by the best transport network in south London. It has beautiful green spaces, great schools, good family homes, and some fantastic urban centres, as well as a strong sense of community and identity.

THE ROLE

The Council wants to build on these opportunities and unlock the huge, untapped potential in Merton that has been, for too long, overlooked.

  • Through the biggest, local housebuilding programme in a generation that will see residents live in some of the most modern, sustainable homes in London.
  • By reimagining some of the borough’s most tired town centres and spaces through groundbreaking regeneration plans.
  • By partnering with its biggest social housing landlord to help ensure it carries out the billion-pound regeneration of some the borough’s largest estates.
  • And by making sure everyone – no matter their background – has a decent place to call home.

The Executive Director of Housing and Sustainable Development role sits at the very heart of that change.  You will have the experience and leadership to turn the Council’s vision into reality; you will have the skills and pragmatism to invite investment; and you will have the tenacity and confidence to work in partnership with communities and developers.  You will have a brilliant track record in delivering, and act as the driving force in transforming Merton into a modern, sustainable, vibrant borough that is fit for the future.

It couldn’t be a more exciting time to come and work as a leader at Merton Council, and we’re searching for the very best people to join us. You will be part of the council’s brand-new senior leadership team who bring diversity of thought and experience to reinvigorate an organisation and borough on the rise.
