Cheshire East boasts stunning countryside, thriving towns, and excellent transport connections. But beyond the picture postcard image lies a rich tapestry of communities, each with its own story. With 400,000 residents, we’re a borough of contrasts, and with a proud industrial heritage alongside pockets of social deprivation.
With a new Leader, Deputy Leader, and Chief Executive in place, the council is embarking on a major reset to ensure our financial sustainability and protect essential services.
We are currently seeking a new DPH who can lead our drive to support healthy, happy communities. The Joint Local Health and Wellbeing Strategy sets out our high-level vision and aspirations to reduce inequalities, narrowing the gap between those who are enjoying good health and wellbeing and those who are not; improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of all of our residents; and help people to have a good quality of life, to be healthy and happy.
We have a good public health team, well regarded by the professional public health community and local NHS, so we are approaching these issues from a position of strength. Our new DPH will of course need the correct technical understanding, experience and qualifications for the role, but equally they must have the leadership and partnership skills to be able to work effectively with stakeholders in the council and across the wider health system in order to effect fundamental change and tackle underlying health inequalities.
