Director of Lifelong Learning, Skills and Employment

London Borough of Hounslow
Hounslow, London
Up to £133,000
Hackney

Hounslow is one of the most diverse boroughs in the country - home to 288,000 people speaking 188 different languages – and a gateway to London and the world. Our economy is one of the largest of any local authority area in the UK. We have a dynamic and entrepreneurial business community – from the headquarters of global brands to cutting edge start-ups. Home to a fast-growing creative sector,  Hounslow’s businesses are leading the way in media, gaming and tech.

THE ROLE

As the Director of Lifelong Learning, Skills and Employment in Hounslow, you will lead a large and dynamic workforce who will touch the lives of children from as young as nine months old to adults up to the age of 25.

You will be responsible for a vast portfolio of services, some of which are statutory, which include early years, schools, SEND, and skills & employment, with both direct control or oversight of more than 300 FTE staff and a budget of approximately £355m.

While all our schools are good or outstanding, we have the third lowest proportion of people in skilled work in London. We also have a number of big businesses, not to mention the UK’s largest airport on our doorstep, which is why we want to do more to give young people the opportunities to gain skills and employment in their home borough.

You will be an excellent communicator, with strong stakeholder management skills, and a passion for working collaboratively to drive change. You will also have a proven track record of implementing successful employment initiatives that support vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our residents and to lead the delivery of vital services for one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse boroughs in the country.
