Director of Culture and Customer Services

East Riding of Yorkshire Council
£106,437 (£102,552 plus cash emolument of £3,885)
Hackney

East Riding of Yorkshire is a hidden gem with a wealth of visitor attractions and cultural and leisure assets across 903 square miles, together with beautiful countryside and coastline, historic parishes and busy market towns providing high streets with quality shops and restaurants. All of which are in close proximity and connected to the two historic cities of York and Hull and the wider Humber region.

THE ROLE

We are currently looking for a Director of Culture and Customer Services to help us lead the delivery of high quality and cost-effective services over a large rural area, building on the council’s achievements to date and further developing our approach. You will be responsible for a wide-ranging remit that includes direct delivery of libraries, customer services, museums, arts, leisure centres, active communities, countryside access, in-house catering, destination tourism attractions (including Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Coastal Services and Bridlington Spa conference and entertainment centre), South Cliff Holiday Park, as well as providing school catering support through Service Level Agreements.  These services are highly valued by our residents and vital in creating healthier and happier communities, supporting them in being physically, mentally and socially active.  We are also continuing to invest in services with the ongoing creation of multi-service centres by merging libraries, customer service centres and where possible leisure provision. Indeed, we are about to commence a £17m transformation of the Goole Leisure Centre, which will enhance the existing offer with commercial activities such as tag active, bowling, and adventure play in addition to a library and customer service centre integration.

The role entails the provision of divisional, cross directorate and multi-agency delivery, projects and partnerships most of which will have a direct impact on residents, visitors or business.  We are therefore seeking commercially aware and resident-focused candidates able to balance health and wellbeing priorities with strong financial performance.  Candidates should have a track record of success in one or more of the key service areas, as well as the ability retain strong operational grip and yet also offer strategic oversight and guidance, in collaboration with other Directorates and our elected Members.
