Herefordshire Council has recently developed an exciting new ten-year strategy for health and wellbeing in the county, guided by a clear vision, “Good health and wellbeing for everyone.” The central focus of the strategy is two-fold: The best start in life for children; and good mental wellbeing throughout life.
We are currently seeking a new Director of Public Health who will work with our partners and communities to make this vision a reality and help us deliver our key health and wellbeing priorities. As a large rural authority, we are conscious that access to services can have a huge impact upon health inequalities, and we are determined to work more closely with health partners and community and voluntary groups to ensure a more joined up approach.
As DPH you will need to be a visible presence, keen to embed public health principles across the wider authority and drive and support a number of key public health programmes and work streams. Backed by a strong and stable team, you will have a clear focus on delivering tangible outcomes for our residents and the ability to work strategically with Members and the senior leadership team. You will need the usual statutory requirements for a senior public health position, but above all, we are seeking proactive and results focused candidates who can develop a systems leadership approach.
