Children and family services at Leicestershire County Council have undergone a significant transformation over the last few years, moving from a ‘requires improvement’ Ofsted judgement to ‘outstanding’ following our ILACs inspection, announced in July this year. In the report, inspectors praised our work to build “strong and long-lasting relationships” with children and families which lead to many families achieving “positive changes” in their lives.
But we are still ambitious for further improvements and we know that there is more to do – especially when it comes to our work on the SEND and Inclusion agenda. Like many other local authorities, we are grappling with the intrinsic challenge of improving the SEND system across Leicestershire. We are on a journey to address these issues and we need strong and innovative leadership to help us achieve stability across the system and deliver better outcomes.
That is why it is so crucial that we recruit an excellent Assistant Director for Education, SEND and Inclusion. As a large rural authority, effective and positive relationships with a complex network of schools, academies and MAT chains are fundamental to how we operate, and our new AD will need the skills, drive and understanding to lead system-change and develop mutually beneficial partnerships. These service areas are also, understandably, of real interest to our elected Members so as our AD you will need the political experience and instincts to work closely with Members as they address any concerns and issues raised by parents, carers and families.
This is a great opportunity to work for one of the best performing children’s services in the region, and for more information please see the role profile and useful links below.
