THE ROLE

Our new Director of Law and Governance will hold a fast-paced role which touches every part of the council. As the Council’s statutory Monitoring Officer,
you will work proactively and supportively with officers and elected members on a wide range of issues that support our ambitious approach to improving the lives of our communities.

We are seeking to enhance our openness and transparency, increase public involvement in council decisions and achieve outstanding governance and probity. You will be the Council’s Deputy Returning Officer leading our highly regarded elections team and will also provide supportive leadership to the business support function of over 100 staff delivering critical support services to every department.

We are looking for a new Director who thrives on being a visible leader to a large service and whose integrity and commitment to standards will support elected members and staff with the complex and sensitive issues that local authorities navigate every day.
