Starfish Search are working with a local authority in London to recruit an Interim Head of Economic Development. The focus of this role will be managing a team responsible for developing and implementing major economic development projects and externally funded programmes, leading on the development of local and sub-regional strategies and programmes.
THE ROLE
You Will
- Provide the policy context and evidence base to inform strategic direction for the Economy, Business, Employment and Skills service
- Lead on developing the Economy Business, Employment and Skills contribution to the development of corporate initiatives, taking forward key Council priorities
- Act as the lead for the development of relevant contributions to the performance dashboard and reporting IES progress in outcomes and KPI’s
- Manage external funding, staffing and service budgets for Economy Team and external bid partners
- Deal with complex enquiries, on behalf of the Assistant Director, Business, Employment & Skills, in order that they can provide advice to Councillors, Chief Officers, MPs, Government departments, business representatives and members of the public
You Will Have:
- Extensive senior management experience in economic development
- Expert knowledge of the relevant policy context, and ability to interpret and apply this in developing and delivering national/regional and borough priorities for economic development, employment, and skills
- Management experience of business, employment and skills service delivery, and the ability to develop new services/projects to deliver key Council priorities
- Ability to produce Member briefings, Cabinet, Committee, and other reports to a high standard
- Ability to manage a small team of staff and to support peer groups and senior management
This is a hybrid role starting in September and running for a period of 4 – 6 months.
