Starfish Search is working with a professional regulator to identify an Interim Lead for Education and Training Review. This is a pivotal opportunity to lead a fundamental review of the regulator’s approach to education and training across a key professional group. The role will bring independent, strategic insight to ensure the organisation’s regulatory framework remains effective, sustainable, and aligned with its statutory duties and strategic ambitions.
THE ROLE
You will:
- Lead a comprehensive review of the regulator’s education and training functions, including standards setting, accreditation, and assurance processes.
- Evaluate current structures, capacity, and resource models within the Education Team, ensuring they are efficient and fit for purpose.
- Review accreditation and recognition fee models to ensure fairness, transparency, and sustainability.
- Engage with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders – including senior leaders, Council and Board members, education providers, professional bodies, and public representatives – to gather insight and shape proposals.
- Identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for alignment with wider regulatory and governance functions.
- Develop clear, evidence-based recommendations for a future approach to education and training regulation, supported by a practical implementation roadmap.
- Champion collaboration, staff wellbeing, and professional development throughout the review process.
You will have:
- Senior leadership experience in a regulatory, professional standards, or healthcare education environment.
- A proven track record of leading strategic reviews or organisational change programmes.
- A strong understanding of professional education and training standards and their role in regulation.
- Experience of working with boards, councils, or equivalent governance bodies.
- Knowledge of workforce and resource planning, including fee and resource model development.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including experience working with government, education providers, and professional groups.
- Familiarity with accreditation, recognition, or quality assurance methodologies.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex issues into practical, sustainable solutions.
- A collaborative and inclusive approach, with a commitment to staff wellbeing and development.
This interim assignment is expected to run for a period of six months, with flexibility on time commitment. The role offers a salary of up to £100,000 per annum (pro-rata).
The organisation operates a hybrid model, with senior leadership typically in London once a week. The Interim Lead will not be required to be office-based full-time.
