Starfish Search is working with a national charity to appoint an Interim Associate Director of Communications & Marketing. Working in close partnership with the executive team, the postholder will help shape priorities and ensure that communications is fully aligned with the developing organisational strategy.
The role will suit a thoughtful and experienced leader who is motivated by developing people as well as strategy. You will lead and support a talented team, create clarity around shared objectives, and ensure that communications activity is purposeful, coherent and grounded in the organisation’s long-term ambitions.
THE ROLE
You will:
- Set the strategic direction for communications and marketing, ensuring activity is tightly aligned with organisational priorities, reputation, and income growth. You will be required to work closely with the Fundraising team.
- Act as a senior strategic adviser to the CEO and Board, providing assured counsel on communications, reputation, and risk.
- Oversee internal communications at a strategic level, ensuring clarity of narrative, alignment of priorities, and consistency of culture across the organisation.
- Drive innovation and strategic development across brand, channels and engagement, including the considered use of emerging tools and technologies to maximise reach and impact.
- Hold accountability for a significant communications budget and agency relationships, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and strategically.
- Strengthen the organisation’s external positioning through purposeful stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building.
You will have:
- A strong track record of operating at Director or Associate Director level in communications, ideally within a complex organisation within the charity sector.
- Demonstrable experience of shaping and leading strategic communications agendas, rather than solely delivering campaigns.
- A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance reputation, audience, income and organisational priorities.
- Sound commercial and budgetary oversight, with experience working in digitally enabled environments.
This role is running for a period of 3-6 months and offers a salary of c.£76,000.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis with the expectation that the successful candidate will be on-site in London one/two days per week.
