Interim Assistant Director of Finance

Starfish Search are working with a local authority in the Northwest to recruit an Interim Assistant Director of Finance (Deputy S.151 officer). This is an exciting new opportunity to join a unique, progressive, and dynamic organisation. The focus of this role is to deputise for the Director of Finance and provide strategic financial leadership in the delivery of long-term financial health and sustainability. Transformation and change are a focal point for this organisation.

THE ROLE

You Will:

  • Lead and direct the Finance Business Partnering, Financial Systems and Reporting, Revenues and Benefits Teams
  • Deliver sound budgetary control, with integrity at the forefront, with the ability to prioritise resources to support the council’s corporate vision
  • Take ownership of strategic financial planning, including the preparation and maintenance of the Medium-Term Financial Plan
  • Utilise financial systems at an optimal level, ensuring they are updated, developed, and replaced as required
  • Advise on commercial opportunities and financial targets
  • Identify and manage key business risks to prevent and detect fraud

You Will Have:

  • Proven strategic and operational leadership experience with the ability to motivate and inspire others in difficult times and periods of significant change.
  • CCAB (or CIMA) qualified accountant
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of local government, its current challenges, and their impact
  • Strong organisational and political acumen and knowledge of working with elected Members and interest groups
  • Strong financial management skills
