Starfish Search is working with a forward-thinking Local Authority in the Midlands to recruit an Interim Assistant Director of Internal Audit & Risk Management to redefine their strategic approach and set a new standard for excellence.
This pivotal role will focus on transforming the audit function, introducing a modern methodology, and embedding best practice across the organisation. You will assess the current landscape, design a forward-thinking strategy, and lay the groundwork for long-term success.
THE ROLE
You Will:
- Lead the redesign of the internal audit and risk management function, creating a modern, future-ready strategy.
- Provide strategic direction to ensure audit and risk frameworks are robust, efficient, and aligned with organisational priorities.
- Collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders to drive cultural change and embed best practice.
- Build capacity within the team, ensuring sustainable delivery and strong governance.
You Will Have:
- A proven track record of transforming and modernising audit and risk services in complex organisations.
- Strong strategic leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire at all levels.
- A deep understanding of the public sector environment and risk management principles (local government experience is advantageous but not essential).
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to deliver at pace.
