East Riding of Yorkshire offers an exceptional quality of life alongside a strong sense of community. From its stunning coastline and rolling countryside to its historic market towns and thriving rural communities, the area combines natural beauty with opportunity. The Council plays a vital role in supporting residents, businesses and schools across this unique region and is committed to delivering high-quality, forward-thinking services that make a real difference to people’s lives.

As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will provide authoritative oversight of legal services, governance, democratic services, constitutional matters, elections, assurance, information governance and organisational integrity. Your leadership will ensure the Council fulfils its statutory duties, upholds the highest standards of probity, and operates with transparency, accountability and professionalism.
Working at both a corporate and directorate level, you will help to shape the Council’s operating model, contribute to organisation‑wide transformation, and support strategic programmes aligned to the Council’s ambitions. You will provide visible, values‑led leadership across Legal and Democratic Services, inspiring high performance, championing innovation and digital modernisation, and building a culture grounded in integrity, professionalism and continuous improvement.
This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the governance environment of a large and ambitious unitary council. You will bring strategic legal insight, political awareness and the ability to work confidently with elected members, senior officers and external partners – ensuring East Riding of Yorkshire Council remains resilient, future‑focused and well‑positioned to meet the evolving demands of local government.
