East Riding of Yorkshire offers an exceptional quality of life alongside a strong sense of community. From its stunning coastline and rolling countryside to its historic market towns and thriving rural communities, the area combines natural beauty with opportunity. The Council plays a vital role in supporting residents, businesses and schools across this unique region and is committed to delivering high-quality, forward-thinking services that make a real difference to people’s lives.
As Executive Director of Prosperity and Place, you will lead one of the Council’s largest directorates, bringing together all of the levers for place, development and growth under one roof. The portfolio spans planning, economic growth, housing, transport, public protection, streetscene services, infrastructure, facilities, culture and customer services, with all services delivered in-house. As a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, you will shape the Council’s strategic direction and act as its lead ambassador for place-based prosperity, positioning the East Riding as a competitive, investment-ready part of the UK economy.
The Council is entering a period of transformation under a refreshed leadership structure, with a clear ambition to strengthen partnerships, attract and secure investment, and shape the places that residents and businesses call home. You will act as Lead Officer for the operational elements of the emerging Mayoral Combined Authority, ensuring alignment of place-based priorities and programmes. Your leadership will be instrumental in unlocking the potential of the East Riding’s diverse coastal, rural and urban communities, securing involvement in national growth and infrastructure programmes, and forging influential relationships with government, industry and investors at a regional, national and international level.
Customer satisfaction across place-based services is high, and residents judge the Council in large part by the quality of the environment they live in. The challenge is to maintain that excellence while navigating a reducing budget and reviewing alternative delivery models. This is a role for a senior officer who can lead large multidisciplinary services at scale and champion a culture of pace and delivery.
