East Riding of Yorkshire offers an exceptional quality of life alongside a strong sense of community. From its stunning coastline and rolling countryside to its historic market towns and thriving rural communities, the area combines natural beauty with opportunity. The Council has a national reputation as a top-performing authority, recent winners of the MJ Award for ethical AI in climate action and the iED Outstanding Impact Award for the Social Value Engine. Under a refreshed senior leadership structure, the Chief Executive is building a team of executive directors who can lead with pace and confidence.
This is the largest directorate in the council, bringing together all the levers for growth, place and community under one leader. Planning, economic development, housing, transport, highways, streetscene, infrastructure, culture, customer services, revenues and procurement all sit within the portfolio, with all services delivered in-house and five strong directors leading each function. You will join the Corporate Leadership Team and act as the council’s lead voice for place-based prosperity.
Resident satisfaction across place-based services is high, and communities care deeply about the quality of the environment they live in. The challenge is to keep that standard while managing a tightening budget, reviewing how services are delivered and thinking creatively about what could look different in the future.
The emerging Hull and East Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority adds a significant regional dimension. You will lead the council’s role within that partnership, ensuring place-based priorities are joined up and that the East Riding secures its share of regional investment and opportunity.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable leading at scale, who brings commercial awareness alongside public service values, and who has the energy and confidence to put the East Riding on the map as a place of national significance.
