THE ROLE

We are seeking an outstanding Director of People Services to lead modern, effective and inclusive workforce functions across the Council and its schools. Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Resources, you will play a strategic leadership role in shaping and delivering the Council’s People Strategy, driving organisational development and culture change, and ensuring the workforce is equipped to meet current and future challenges.

As Director, you will oversee a wide portfolio including payroll, recruitment, HR systems, advisory and business support services, policy and reward, occupational health and safety, organisational development, inclusion and HR business partnering. You will lead major transformation programmes, manage significant budgets, and build strong relationships with trade unions, elected Members and senior leaders, while representing the Council at regional and national level.

The successful candidate will bring extensive senior-level HR experience, deep expertise in employment law and workforce strategy, strong leadership and influencing skills, and a proven ability to deliver change in complex environments.
