Starfish Search are working with a local authority in the Northwest to recruit an Interim Assistant Director of Finance (Deputy S.151 officer). This is an exciting new opportunity to join a unique, progressive, and dynamic organisation. The focus of this role is to deputise for the Director of Finance and provide strategic financial leadership in the delivery of long-term financial health and sustainability. Transformation and change are a focal point for this organisation.
THE ROLE
You Will:
- Lead and direct the Finance Business Partnering, Financial Systems and Reporting, Revenues and Benefits Teams
- Deliver sound budgetary control, with integrity at the forefront, with the ability to prioritise resources to support the council’s corporate vision
- Take ownership of strategic financial planning, including the preparation and maintenance of the Medium-Term Financial Plan
- Utilise financial systems at an optimal level, ensuring they are updated, developed, and replaced as required
- Advise on commercial opportunities and financial targets
- Identify and manage key business risks to prevent and detect fraud
You Will Have:
- Proven strategic and operational leadership experience with the ability to motivate and inspire others in difficult times and periods of significant change.
- CCAB (or CIMA) qualified accountant
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of local government, its current challenges, and their impact
- Strong organisational and political acumen and knowledge of working with elected Members and interest groups
- Strong financial management skills
