Director of Education and Skills

Wiltshire Council
Up to £124,000
Hackney

Wiltshire is one of the largest unitary authorities in the country.  Predominantly rural, Wiltshire Council is home to over 510,000 residents and 235 schools of which 86% of secondary schools and 42% of primary schools are academies. The council’s Children’s Services were judged to be ‘outstanding’ in December last year and Ofsted recognised that children feature strongly across the council’s strategic plans and that continued investment in services is making a significant difference to children’s lives.

THE ROLE

School improvement and attainment underpin this exciting and challenging role alongside school place planning, SEND and Inclusion. As important is the interface with early help, social care, health and employment and skills. Like many authorities, demand for SEND services is steadily increasing and requires collaboration across the local areas to deliver new provision and places. With such a wide remit, you will play a critical leadership role across the council and with wider system partners.

Reporting to Lucy Townsend, the council’s DCS, you will enjoy working in a supportive, large and complex system. You will thrive on building highly trusted relationships with the council’s vast array of school leaders and its further education college and will be recognised for your role in supporting schools on their journey to outstanding.
