Assistant Director of Culture and Creativity

London Borough of Haringey
Up to £123,000
Hackney

Haringey offers the very best of London: diversity, heritage, culture and opportunity. These are exciting times for the borough – and we are hugely ambitious for our people.

THE ROLE

Haringey’s cultural heritage is second to none, from Bruce Castle Museum – a Grade I listed 16th-century manor house – to Ally Pally, home of the BBC and celebrating its 150th birthday this year; and from West Green Road in Tottenham, home to many pioneering businesses, entrepreneurs and artists of the Windrush Generation, to the Turkish restaurants of Green Lanes and long-established arts venues such as Bernie Grant Arts Centre and Jackson’s Lane – the UK’s leading contemporary circus space.

What might be less well known is that throughout the borough, from Tottenham to Hornsey and Crouch End to Wood Green, we have emerging pockets of amazing creativity and dynamism. Wood Green Cultural Quarter, N22’s hidden powerhouse of artists, music producers, designer-makers and craftspeople, has more than 80,000 square feet of studio space. Alexander McQueen’s Sarabande Foundation is expanding their studio space for aspiring creatives to Tottenham High Road. Almost 1 in 5 people in Tottenham work in the creative industries, supported by our Creative Enterprise Zone, Made By Tottenham. And we are home to the firm who made the beards for both Hagrid and Gandalf, not to mention 5 days of Beyonce at the Spurs Stadium!

As Assistant Director of Culture and Creativity, you will help us harness this diversity and creativity to bring growth and even more opportunities to the borough. You will also have responsibility for our libraries, museum, and a core programme of civic cultural events, working with a wide range of cultural and community partners. We’re looking for someone who can bring their extensive connections across the creative arts sector in London, demonstrate a proven track record of securing funding for projects and community assets, and has a genuine passion for creativity and diversity in all its forms. You will be an excellent communicator, with strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to drive change.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact in one of the most culturally diverse boroughs in London.
