Herefordshire is a county like no other. Stretching from the Welsh border to the Malvern Hills, it combines vibrant market towns, thriving communities and some of England’s most beautiful countryside. Residents rightly value the county’s independence, heritage and quality of life, but Herefordshire is also ambitious for its future, investing in growth, regeneration and improved outcomes for communities.
To achieve our ambitions, strong financial leadership is critical. As local government continues to face significant financial challenge and increasing demand pressures, we are committed to maintaining a sustainable financial position whilst continuing to deliver high-quality services for residents. This is an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team and help shape the future of both the organisation and the county we serve.
As Head of Finance and Deputy Section 151 Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the council’s financial leadership. Reporting to the Director of Finance you will provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders and elected members, supporting sound decision-making across the organisation.
Leading a talented finance team, you will oversee the development of our Medium Term Financial Strategy, annual budget setting process, treasury management activities and key aspects of financial governance. You will work closely with services across the council, ensuring that financial resources are aligned to organisational priorities and that robust financial management underpins everything we do.
This is a highly visible role with significant corporate influence. You will help drive financial resilience, support transformation and continuous improvement, and ensure the council remains well placed to respond to both opportunities and challenges in a rapidly evolving environment.
