Sefton New Directions is Sefton Council’s wholly owned adult social care company, established in 2007 and employing around 350 staff. The company delivers a wide range of care and support services across the borough, from reablement and rapid response to day services, respite care and long-term residential provision for older people and adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health needs.
The company is entering an important phase. A significant transformation programme is underway to ensure services are affordable, viable, sustainable and continue to deliver high quality care. There is also scope to explore new revenue streams and commercial opportunities, including services to private self-funders.
The Managing Director will lead the organisation, reporting to the Board and the Shareholder. You will be responsible for developing and delivering the future direction and growth of the company, ensuring its viability and sustainability while maintaining the quality of care that residents and families rely on.
This is a role that combines strategic leadership with commercial awareness. You will develop and implement the company’s business plan, drive change and innovation to meet the challenges of a tightening financial environment, and work closely with commissioners, service users, trade unions and partners across the health and care sector. The company operates within a Teckal structure, and the Managing Director will need to understand what that means for governance, commercial freedom and the relationship with the Council as shareholder.
The company operates in a unionised environment and the Managing Director will need to take a personal role in developing a productive and motivated workforce through a period of change. You will lead the Senior Management Team and set the tone for the organisation’s culture, ensuring it reflects the company’s values of being big hearted, reliable, collaborative and people focused.
We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. What matters most is that you bring significant senior leadership experience, strong financial and commercial insights and a track record of leading organisations or services through transformation and change.
