The CWGC is a highly respected, prestigious, global organisation that honours and cares for the 1.7 million men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Funded by six Commonwealth Member Governments, we build and maintain memorials and cemeteries at 23,000 locations, in over 150 countries, including some of the world’s most iconic, landmark monuments.
Over a century after we first began, our work continues through our staff, supporters and volunteers who preserve our unique cultural, horticultural and architectural heritage and ensure that the stories of those who died are told. At CWGC and in our charitable arm, The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation, we have a shared commitment, a clear vision and a set of values (Commitment, Ambition, Respect and Excellence) that drive all we do.
Alongside the care of our sites and records, CWGC engages current and future generations through education, visitor experience, public engagement, volunteering, events and the work of the Foundation. The next phase of development requires a step change in public awareness, supporter engagement, education, visitor experience and charitable income.
In this significant global role, you will provide effective strategic leadership across CWGC’s public-facing engagement, communications, reputation, income generation and audience development activity. You will shape and deliver our organisational strategy, ensuring that the Commission is better known, better understood, more deeply valued and more widely supported across the Commonwealth and beyond.
This is a substantial role requiring an exceptional leader and professional with sharp commercial acumen and experience of operating at scale and complexity. You will balance the dignity and sensitivity of commemoration with the need to reach new audiences, grow engagement, improve insight and strengthen our global public profile.
Maturity of judgement will be essential, alongside an international perspective. You will bring a sophisticated influencing style and will be comfortable leading across a complex, multi-country environment where ceremonial, protocol and diplomatic considerations are integral to our work.
