Interim Head of Communications

Starfish Search is supporting a local authority in the North of England to appoint an Interim Head of Communications to lead the council’s communications and engagement function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the council’s communications, media relations, digital content and stakeholder engagement functions
  • Provide strategic communications advice and support to senior leaders, elected members and key stakeholders
  • Oversee reputation management, crisis communications and media handling
  • Develop and deliver communications strategies that support organisational priorities and transformation programmes
  • Lead internal communications activity to drive engagement and organisational change
  • Manage communications budgets, external suppliers and agency relationships
  • Lead and develop the Communications team

About you:

  • Significant senior communications experience, ideally within local government or the wider public sector
  • Strong background in media relations, stakeholder engagement and reputation management
  • Experience advising senior leaders and elected members on complex and sensitive issues
  • Proven track record of leading communications through organisational change and transformation
  • Excellent leadership, influencing and relationship management skills
