Executive Director of Place

Wirral Council
£151,906 – £168,182
Hackney

Wirral is a place of real diversity, character and opportunity. Located between the River Mersey and the Dee Estuary, with Liverpool to the east and North Wales on the doorstep, the borough combines strong coastal and rural communities with vibrant urban centres and a growing visitor economy. It is home to around 325,000 residents and benefits from excellent connectivity to the wider city region and beyond.

The borough has a strong sense of place and identity, with distinct towns and neighbourhoods, each with their own strengths and priorities. This diversity underpins Wirral’s approach to local decision‑making, community engagement and service delivery, and requires leadership that is collaborative, resilient and genuinely place‑focused.

THE ROLE

The Council is entering a new chapter, with a new Chief Executive in Matt Bennett, a refreshed senior leadership structure and a clear focus on modernising the organisation and delivering outcomes residents can see and feel.

As Executive Director of Place, you will lead one of the Council’s most significant portfolios, bringing together Neighbourhoods and Regeneration into a single strategic directorate. This is a role that connects everyday services with long-term opportunity, shaping the way residents experience the borough now and the way Wirral grows for decades to come.

We are looking for someone with a strong track record of delivering place-based change at scale, who brings energy and ambition and a clear vision of what success looks like. A strong collaborator, your values will put Wirral’s communities at the heart of how the borough grows and develops.
