We are working with a County Council looking to appoint an Interim Director Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities. Being made up of busy towns and cities, port communities and rural villages, comes significant disparity within the population on socio-economic indicators, including healthy life expectancy and other health measures. The strength of this County is its people, and they are here to nurture a safer, better-connected society that empowers their residents and celebrates the County’s diversity. They want to work locally to create homes not houses, places not developments, and communities not estates.
THE ROLE
As the Director of Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities you will thrive on the opportunity to work as part of the Economy, Investment, and Public Health Directorate and the impact this can have on the wider determinants of health. Your portfolio will extend far beyond your statutory public health responsibilities, to cover our traveller unit, trading standards, overseas arrivals and strengthening communities.
You Will
- Lead and support the team to effectively deliver the Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities Service and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy
- Service plan and embed the new ways of working that are proving successful in driving forwards partnership working arrangements and integration, both internally and externally
- You will provide leadership across the system and continue to develop relationships with existing partners
- Working with local communities, you will inspire the development of innovative solutions that support improvements in health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce health inequalities
You Will Have
- Be registered as a Public Health Specialist with the General Medical Council (GMC) or the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR)
- Have previous experience in delivering the statutory duties of the Director of Public Health
- Understanding of working with the Department of Health and Social Care, UK Health Security Agency and Home Office as well as the NHS and local government bodies
- Practical experience in facilitating change and leading teams through complex programmes
- Understanding of the public sector duty and the inequality duty, and their application to public health practice
This role is running for up to six months. It is a hybrid role with in-office presence expected two days a week.
